How our application process works

  1. Step

    Create an Account in Ravenna

Create an account in Ravenna to access the YCIS application. Use this account to complete your application, supply documentation, register for events, track the progress of your application and view the admissions decision.

  2. Step

    Submit an Application Online

On the application, you will be asked to provide information about your child and family, upload a photo, and complete a parent statement. You may log in as many times as you need to before submitting the application. A non-refundable application fee of $150 is required to complete the application.

View deadline dates and eligibility details below.

  3. Step

    Attend an Interview/Assessment

Preschool and Kindergarten small group interviews/assessments will take place in February. The Admissions Office will contact applicants’ parents to register for a session. Grades 1-8 applicants will attend a Shadow Day to be scheduled upon receipt of an application.

    Preschool Play Session/Interview:
The interview helps to ensure a “good fit” — that the child is ready for the type of dual language learning environment he or she will experience at YCIS, and that the YCIS program will meet the learning needs of the child. Some children may be asked to attend a second interview before a decision on admission is made.Kindergarten Assessment:
Kindergarten assessments are small group sessions with activities led by Kindergarten teachers in both English and Mandarin. They are designed to be fun for children.Shadow Day (Grades 1-8):
Applicants for Grades 1-8 are invited to attend a Shadow Day. During a shadow day, the applicant will enjoy a day at school with their grade level cohort and participate in regular classroom lessons. Additional assessments in math, English or Mandarin may be required.
  4. Step

    Teacher Evaluation

Teacher Evaluations are required of all applicants from Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds) through Grade 8. Middle school applicants are required to have two teacher evaluations submitted. The forms are available in Ravenna for parents to send to teachers.

  5. Step

    Submit Supplementary Documents

Transcripts are required for applicants entering Grades 1–8. They must be uploaded as supplementary documentation in Ravenna by February 7, 2019.

  6. Step

    Decision Notification

Decisions are posted on Ravenna at 12:00 p.m. on March 21, 2019. This is a common posting date for member schools of the Independent Schools of the San Francisco Bay Area (ISSFBA).

  7. Step

    Enrollment Contract

To accept an Offer of Admission and secure a place at YCIS Silicon Valley, parents should complete the online Enrollment Contract and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit by 10:00 a.m. on March 28, 2019.

The Admissions Office will continue to be a point of contact for new families from enrollment until the new school year begins. New families will also receive orientation information and be invited to events to prepare for enrollment.
