Attend a Play Session or Assessment

In a typical year, Preschool and Kindergarten small group sessions take place in February and Grades 1-8 applicants attend a Shadow Day after applying. This year, we will be modifying this process to allow for virtual options. More information will be provided later in the fall.

    ...
    Preschool Play Session/Interview:
The interview helps to ensure a “good fit” — that the child is ready for the type of dual language learning environment he or she will experience at YCIS, and that the YCIS program will meet the learning needs of the child. Some children may be asked to attend a second interview before a decision on admission is made.
    Kindergarten Assessment:
Kindergarten assessments are small group sessions with activities led by Kindergarten teachers in both English and Mandarin. They are designed to be fun for children.
    Shadow Day (Grades 1-8):
Applicants for Grades 1-8 are invited to attend a Shadow Day. During a shadow day, the applicant will enjoy a day at school with their grade level cohort and participate in regular classroom lessons. Additional assessments in math, English or Mandarin may be required.

    Teacher Evaluation

Teacher Evaluations are required of all applicants from Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds) through Grade 8. Middle school applicants are required to submit two teacher evaluations. The forms are available in the online application for parents to send to teachers. YCIS uses the Independent Schools of the San Francisco Bay Area Common Confidential Student Evaluation Form.

Transcripts are required for applicants entering Grades 1–8. They must be submitted as supplementary documentation by February 8, 2021.

To accept an Offer of Admission and secure a place at YCIS Silicon Valley, parents should complete the online Enrollment Contract and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit by 10:00 a.m. on March 25, 2021.

The Admissions Office will continue to be a point of contact for new families from enrollment until the new school year begins. New families will also receive orientation information and be invited to events to prepare for enrollment.
