How our application process works

  1. Step

    Start the Application

Create an account to access the YCIS application. Once you submit your application, you will be able to log back in to your account to access a checklist of items to complete, upload documentation, register for events, and track the progress of your application.

    Submit an Application Online

On the application, you will be asked to provide information about your child and family and complete a parent questionnaire. You may log in as many times as you need to before submitting the application. A non-refundable application fee of $150 is required to complete the application. View deadline dates and eligibility above for more information.

Attend a Play Session or Assessment

In a typical year, Preschool small group sessions take place in February and Grades TK-8 applicants attend a Shadow Day after applying. Parents may also be invited for an interview. More information will be provided if alternative arrangements are needed based on prevailing health conditions.

    Preschool Play Session/Interview:
The interview helps to ensure a “good fit” — that the child is ready for the type of dual language learning environment he or she will experience at YCIS, and that the YCIS program will meet the learning needs of the child. Some children may be asked to attend a second interview before a decision on admission is made.
    Shadow Day (Grades TK-8):
Applicants for Grades TK-8 are invited to attend a Shadow Day. During a shadow day, the applicant will enjoy a day at school with their grade level cohort and participate in regular classroom lessons. Additional assessments in math, English or Mandarin may be required.

    Teacher Evaluation

Teacher Evaluations are required of all applicants from Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds) through Grade 8. Middle school applicants are required to submit two teacher evaluations. The forms are available in the online application for parents to send to teachers. YCIS uses the Independent Schools of the San Francisco Bay Area Common Confidential Student Evaluation Form.

    Submit Supplementary Documents

Transcripts are required for applicants entering Grades 1–8. They must be submitted as supplementary documentation by February 7, 2024.

To accept an Offer of Admission and secure a place at YCIS Silicon Valley, parents should complete the online Enrollment Contract and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit by 10:00 a.m. on March 21, 2024.

The Admissions Office will continue to be a point of contact for new families from enrollment until the new school year begins. New families will also receive orientation information and be invited to events to prepare for enrollment.
