Attend a Play Session or Assessment

In a typical year, Preschool small group sessions take place in February and Grades TK-8 applicants attend a Shadow Day after applying. Parents may also be invited for an interview. More information will be provided if alternative arrangements are needed based on prevailing health conditions.

    ...
    Preschool Play Session/Interview:
The interview helps to ensure a “good fit” — that the child is ready for the type of dual language learning environment he or she will experience at YCIS, and that the YCIS program will meet the learning needs of the child. Some children may be asked to attend a second interview before a decision on admission is made.
    Shadow Day (Grades TK-8):
Applicants for Grades TK-8 are invited to attend a Shadow Day. During a shadow day, the applicant will enjoy a day at school with their grade level cohort and participate in regular classroom lessons. Additional assessments in math, English or Mandarin may be required.

    Teacher Evaluation

Teacher Evaluations are required of all applicants from Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds) through Grade 8. Middle school applicants are required to submit two teacher evaluations. The forms are available in the online application for parents to send to teachers. YCIS uses the Independent Schools of the San Francisco Bay Area Common Confidential Student Evaluation Form.

The Admissions Office will continue to be a point of contact for new families from enrollment until the new school year begins. New families will also receive orientation information and be invited to events to prepare for enrollment.
